Running shoes for Niger
In her own English. Not translated.
Running Shoes for Niger I have been asked by Jeroen Roovers (the track and field coach in Niger) and one man from Niger, living in NYC, to help in providing shoes to runners in Niger. This was a short notice as the shipment was due at the end of March. Just one email to my running friends and the response was amazing. During just two weekends that we had, we were able to collect 64 pairs of running shoes. Each pair was separated by tying them together. I delivered them to the man in NYC and he arranged shipment to the coach in Niger. As soon as I hear that they reached the destination, I will share the information with you. I want to thank each of you for your great help. It is a good feeling to help others especially those in need. For us it is a spare pair of unwanted running shoes. For the recipient it is a treasure. I have run twice in Niger and I know first hand the living conditions of the people. This shipment will bring a big smile and much joy to many people. Well done my friends. Thank you. I am planning to collect running shoes as well other athletic shoes (soccer, track and field shoes) for the next shipment at the end of summer. Attached are a few photos of the shoe collection. I also received this email: “Hello last week there was a International semi marathon competition In Cotonou and many countries were there including the United and Jeroen the coach just wrote me and said that one of the Nigerien expecting one of your shoes won the race. I believe that because of him knowing that those shoes were coming to Niger and he will get some of it and because he heard about you and what you are doing for Niger marathon he won the race”.
